A Few Center for Awakening charitable Projects

KANOSH INDIAN PROJECT INSPIRED BY JAMES LEVOY SORENSON

James LeVoy Sorenson suggested at the last Center for Awakening church board meeting he attended with before his death that we should help the Kanosh UT Indian reservation.  So after he passed a group of Center for Awakening members visited the reservation and asked them if there was something they needed.  They quickly told us that their community center had not had hot water in years and that they would love a new hot water heater for their community center.  A couple weeks later the hot water heater was installed and another group of Center for Awakening members brought bags of clothing to the reservation and spent time honoring James LeVoy Sorenson and his idea to help this small and needy Native American community.

WOMEN TO WOMEN NATIONAL

We have sponsored two women from the Congo for an entire year.  This will provide assistance for the women and their children as well as education and other support.

COSTA RICA

Provided a months worth of food to a very needy family in Costa Rica.  They were out of food and had four young children to feed.  We also brought them several sets of clothing for all four children and a few toys.  We also brought  some food, clothing and toys to some neighbors in the small town.

COSTA RICA

Brought school supplies to a rural school in Costa Rica.

UGANDA MARTYRS ORPHANS PROJECT

Helping the increasing amounts of orphans left homeless and helpless due to the clashes in Kenya. The project provides food, shelter, medicine, and education to the orphans in Uganda  .  This was funded by our October 5th meditation.

FRANK AND BRENDA WADE

For this project was Frank and Brenda Wade. Dharma Das works with an extraordinary man named Frank who manages to hold down two telephone jobs in order to pay for medical expenses for his wife Brenda. Frank has cerebral palsy and is unable to do simple tasks like dressing and bathing himself or driving and preparing meals. He has been dependent on his wife Brenda to care for his needs, however, Brenda has become very sick and is in need of a liver transplant and is no longer well enough to care for Frank. Frank is not qualified for any financial assistance for a home health aid because he works two jobs. Brenda’s liver transplant will cost them over $100,000 after insurance, and a home health aid will cost $30,000 for one year. Center for Awakening will use all love offerings, donations from meditations, yoga classes and Reiki to assist Frank and Brenda with their health care expenses. SATURDAY MAY 3RD, 2008 FUNDRAISER:  We offered portraits by Laurie Kaufman, professional photographer, at Shirlyn’s Natural foods at 1922 East 9400 South, from 11 am to 3 pm. All proceeds went towards Brenda’s liver transplant.  There were massage gift certificates for anyone who donates $100 or more, a drawing for those who purchased portraits and free food from Quiznos for everyone.

PROJECT PEACE IN PARADISE

A relief effort to aid a Costa Rican village who has lost homes and suffered great personal losses due to the unusually harsh rainy season this year. We will rebuild homes, bring food, clothing and first aid supplies to the village
